Prayer to be Freed from All Sinful Habits
One of the most frustrating things is to have to go to confession for the same sins over and over again for the same, sinful habits.
We know the sins are wrong and yet we find ourselves committing them repeatedly, whether because of failure to train our will, or a lack of time spent in prayer.
What are sinful habits?
Sinful habits, in a nutshell, are all habits that offend God. Some might be venial and some might be grave.
Many times, these habits start small. You might for example, have the habit of watching movies that show nudity and use lewd language. That in itself can be sinful, if for example, you intentionally watch shows that you know will include that content.
Those smaller habit can eventually lead you to sin gravely, for example, by watching pornographic content, which then develop into a habit you can’t break.
It’s a sinful loop.
There are a variety of methods that can be employed to break sinful habits, which we will cover in a post next week. One of those ways is through prayer.
Deliverance Prayers For Use By the Laity, which also contains a wonderful binding prayer that we’ve mentioned before, also has this “Prayer to be Freed From All Sinful Habits”.
It is a wonderful prayer against concupiscence, captivity and sinful habits.

Prayer to be Freed from All Sinful Habits
Give me, I beseech thee, oh Holy Spirit, Giver of all good gifts, that powerful grace which converts the stony hearts of mortals into burning furnaces of love.
By Thy grace, free my captive soul from the thralldom of every evil habit and concupiscence, to restore it to the holy liberty of the children of God.
Give me to taste how sweet it is to serve the Lord and crucify the flesh with its vices and concupiscences.
Enlarge my heart that I may ever truthfully run in the way of Thy Commandments until I reach the goal of my aspirations, the joys and bliss of Thy habitation in heaven.
Amen.

This prayer is very inspiring. Thank you for posting it.
One small mention; would you reconsider the line that reads “Enlarge my heart” to something more like “restore my heart”?
Because I know someone with whats called an “enlarged heart” (a type of cardiological disease) and it is causing her pain.
Just thought I would bring this to the pious author’s attention.
Thank you for considering.
Hello there! Many of these prayers use more of an ancient vernacular, so they are not usually in everyday English. Think of the phrase, “You have a big heart.” To enlarge simply means to make one’s heart wide open to God’s truth. Have a blessed day!
