Why Should We Pray an Act of Consecration to St Michael?
St Michael is the guardian of the Church.
St Alphonsus Liguori said:
“The powers of hell will assail the dying Christian; but his angel guardian will come to console him. His patrons, and St. Michael, who has been appointed by God to defend his faithful servants in their last combat with the devils, will come to his aid.”
St Michael Helps Guard Purity
Anytime you are tempted to commit a sin of impurity, ask for St Michael’s Intercession. Pray the Prayer to St Michael. St. Michael doesn’t just protect us in terms of physical harm, but he also intercedes for us to maintain purity of heart.
Dissecting the Act of Consecration to St. Michael the Archangel
The Act of Consecration to St. Michael begins by acknowledging St Michael’s strength and valor. He is called the “most noble prince of the angelic hierarchies” and a “valorous warrior”. Isn’t it reassuring to know that in this time of feckless leaders, we have an intercessor and protector who is not cowardly?
What we also learn from this prayer is that St Michael is a “lover of God’s glory”. The Saints warn us about self-love with good reason. Any desire for glory should be focused on God’s glory. In fact, the war in heaven against St Michael was the fight against an evil force that wanted glory for its evil master, Satan. St Michael continues to fight for God’s glory.
The Act of Consecration approaches St Michael not from a place of pride, but form a place of humility. We know that God despises the proud.
I entreat thee not to look at how little, I, as thy servant have to offer, being only a wretched sinner…
By praying this prayer, we also ask St Michael to obtain the grace for us to love God more, as we are supposed to love him, without any vestige of self-interest.

And finally, in this Act of Consecration, we ask St Michael to help us during our final struggle.
Come then oh Glorious Prince and succor me in my last struggle, and with thy powerful weapon cast far from me into the infernal abysses that prevaricator and proud angel that one day thou prostrated in the celestial battle.
We know that one of the greatest struggles we have are on our deathbeds when we are in our final agonies. This is the time the Devil attempts to put doubts in our minds about the state of our souls, or even on the existence of God. Thank God, we have recourse to St Michael.

Act of Consecration to St Michael the Archangel
Oh most Noble Prince of the Angelic Hierarchies
valorous warrior of Almighty God,
and zealous lover of His glory,
terror of the rebellious angels,
and love and delight of all the just ones,
my beloved Archangel Saint Michael,
desiring to be numbered among thy devoted servants,
I, today offer and consecrate myself to thee,
and place myself, my family,
and all I possess under thy most powerful protection.
I entreat thee not to look at how little, I,
as thy servant have to offer,
being only a wretched sinner,
but to gaze, rather,
with favorable eye at the heartfelt affection
with which this offering is made,
and remember that if from this day onward
I am under thy patronage,
thou must during all my life assist me,
and procure for me the pardon of my many grievous offenses,
and sins, the grace to love with all my heart my God,
