Memorare to Our Lady of La Salette – An Entreaty to Our Lady
The Memorare to Our Lady of La Salette is based on an apparition of our Lady that occurred in France.
On September 19, 1846, two French children, Maximin Giraud and Mélanie Calvat reported an apparItion of our Lady. Her message was a call to conversion.
She was seen visibly crying and the children reported the reason for her tears, as lack of a Sunday observance of Mass. This is not new to the time we are living in, apparently!
She is reported to have said:
“How long I have suffered for you! If my Son is not to cast you off, I am obliged to entreat him without ceasing. But you take no least notice of that. No matter how well you pray in future, no matter how well you act, you will never be able to make up to me what I have endured for your sake.“I have appointed for you six days for working. The seventh I have reserved for myself. And no one will give it to me.” This is what causes the weight of my Son’s arm to be so crushing. Only a few rather old women go to Mass in the summer. All the rest work every Sunday throughout the summer.”

Our Lady expresses her commitment to interceding for us so that we are not cast off. She has endured much for our sake and will endure more for our sake. What a great intercessor we have! How can we fail her over and over?
The Memorare to Our Lady of Lasalette begs her to intercede for us and to remember all she has done to keep us faithful to Christ. Remember (memorare), O Great lady and please do not abandon us.
The Memorare to Our Lady of Lasalette is such an efficacious prayer, that Pope Pius XI granted a 500 day indulgence, although we are not sure if the indulgence is still in effect.

Remember, Our Lady of La Salette,
true Mother of Sorrows,
the tears you shed for us on Calvary.
Remember also the care you have taken
to keep us faithful to Christ, your Son.
Having done so much for your children,
you will not now abandon us.
Comforted by this consoling thought,
we come to you pleading,
despite our infidelities and ingratitude.
Virgin of Reconciliation,
do not reject our prayers, but intercede for us,
obtain for us the grace
to love Jesus above all else.
May we console you by a holy life
and so come to share the eternal life
